| Description: Where is the application where a ventilation plug is
needed, which has at the first glance contradictory
features: high protection class and ventilation at the
same time? Having a closer look to this situation we
find a lot of applications where electronic devices and
control units must be protected from environmental
conditions and simultaneously must "breath" for the
reason of continuous functionality. To name just a few
examples we immediately come to lighting applications,
industrial control systems, automotive devices and pump
housings. In other words: the ventilation plugs are
asked every time when electronic systems must work
in housings with high protection class without
malfunction.
How are these ventilation plugs working?
A semi permeable membrane inside the plug -known to
most of you from casual and sports clothing - is
responsible for allowing to pass the moist air out
of the housing letting only dry air back into the housing:
the moisture is blocked by the membrane. By this fact
a perfect condition for electronic systems inside the
enclosure is created after a short time of operation:
dry air and at the same time pressure and temperature
equalization. Applying ventilation plugs is an alternative
of hermetically sealing and potting. It additionally allows
board level repairing and board swaps.
Ventilation plugs from Bimed are available with M 12X1,5
threads and can be ordered in different colours. They
allow a typical air flow of 120 ltr/h at AP of 70mbar.
They achieve protection class IP 68 (0,1 bar) or IP 69K
(high pressure spray) within a temperature range from
-40"C up to + 105T. |
